Why we started CV-Refresher (and not just another CV tool)

Most CV tools are dreamt up by people who've never worked through a stack of job applications. At CV-Refresher, it's a little different. Our tool was developed by two people who sat on the other side of the table every day: an active HR Business Partner and a Manager, who saw exactly what was going wrong — because they had to assess it themselves.

Two recruiters, one recurring frustration

Day after day, CVs came in that all followed the same standard template: the format you copy straight from Indeed or any random job site. Fine for a quick start, less fine when ten thousand other candidates use exactly the same template. The result? Strong candidates were rejected faster, not because they weren't suitable, but because their CV didn't show who they actually were. As a recruiter, you notice it yourself: you scan, you compare, and a CV that doesn't stand out simply falls by the wayside.

That felt wrong. Letting someone's career prospects hinge on a generic downloadable template — surely there had to be a better way?

So we built it ourselves

Rather than just moaning about it by the coffee machine, they decided to tackle the problem. That's how CV-Refresher came about: a tool that lifts CVs from "just another template" to a document that genuinely shows why you're the right candidate. Built by people who know exactly what recruiters look for, because they did it themselves week in, week out.
